Cowater International and Equity Economics join forces to strengthen economic development capability in the Asia-Pacific region

Global development firm Cowater International and Australian economic and social policy consultancy Equity Economics have today announced that Equity Economics is joining the Cowater International group of companies, in a move that will enhance support for inclusive, evidence-based development across the Asia-Pacific region.

With a strong track record delivering complex development programs, Cowater has worked extensively with Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and partners throughout the region. The addition of Equity Economics strengthens Cowater’s Australian footprint and brings together Cowater’s global platform with Equity’s deep local expertise in economic and social policy.

“This investment reflects Cowater’s deep commitment to the Asia-Pacific at a time of both challenge and opportunity for the international development sector,” said Cowater International Chief Executive, David Baron. “By joining forces with Equity Economics, we are expanding our technical capacity in economics and public policy, and strengthening our ability to deliver locally responsive, globally connected solutions.”

Founded more than a decade ago, Equity Economics has built a strong reputation for delivering high-impact work in areas such as inclusive growth, social reform, First Nations policy and community development. The firm will continue to operate under the Equity Economics brand and leadership, working with Australian governments, First Nations and community organisations, and international partners.

“This is an exciting step for Equity Economics,” said Founder and Managing Director, Amanda Robbins. “We’re joining a global group that shares our mission and values. Our clients can expect continuity—with the added benefit of Cowater’s international reach and operational strength.”

Equity Economics’ role in analysis, design and evaluation of public policy will continue with the same focus on independence, rigour and integrity that has defined its work to date. The joining of the two firms reflects a shared belief in the importance of evidence-based, locally-led approaches to economic and social development.
